Buying a house is taking up a lot of time lately, but I did squeeze in a weekend recently and finished up a couple projects that I've had in the works for about a month. I also was able to start and finish another calabash in the span of the weekend, and when you see it, I think you'll agree that this one is special. The first two are available for immediate sale, but the calabash is a special request, and the customer gets first dibs. I'll lead off with this lumberman, a really nice pipe with loads of contrast in the grain. It's also exceedingly comfortable, and holds a generous amount of tobacco. My mother the portrait artist called it "something to buy, just to display", but I hope that whoever buys it will smoke it with pride. http://www.pipecrafter.com/pipes/cityman/lumberman2.php This one is an elephant's foot that is simply marvelous. I'm so happy with the way it finished up that I'm nearly at a loss for words to describe it. It's also the first in over a year that's getting the nobleman grade, and only the third in history to receive that stamp. http://www.pipecrafter.com/pipes/nobleman/elephant2.php And here is the calabash, number three. This one is a smooth finish, with a high contrast stain on the main body. Like the rest, the bowl is finished in a very light contrast that hints at being briar, but is traditionaly light in color. Also of note, is that this is also a Nobleman grade - the pipe is impressive and, I'm sorry to use the cliche, but the pics just don't do it justice. http://www.pipecrafter.com/pipeimages/calabash3.jpg http://www.pipecrafter.com/pipeimages/calabash3-alt1.jpg http://www.pipecrafter.com/pipeimages/calabash3-alt2.jpg http://www.pipecrafter.com/pipeimages/calabash3-alt3.jpg http://www.pipecrafter.com/pipeimages/calabash3-alt4.jpg I am, right now, heading out into the workshope to finish a couple sandblasted pipes that I hope to post tomorrow morning, so stay tuned for more pipes.... -- Kurt Huhn pipecrafter at pipecrafter.com http://www.pipecrafter.com From pipecrafter at pipecrafter.com Tue Jul 18 19:59:16 2006 From: pipecrafter at pipecrafter.com (Kurt Huhn) Date: Tue, 18 Jul 2006 19:59:16 -0400 Subject: [Pipe-announce] 7.22.06 - A stout, a volcano, and a dublin Message-ID: <44BD75D4.5010908@pipecrafter.com> This first one almost earned the name 'shillelagh' due to it's size and heft, but in the end I decided to name it after an irish ale. No, wait, that would be 'stout' in the manner of 'solid' or 'of substance'... http://www.pipecrafter.com/pipes/cityman/stout2.php Here's a slightly smaller pipe that isn't as small as it looks: http://www.pipecrafter.com/pipes/cityman/volcano10.php It's a wonderful pipe that's loads of fun to hold in your hand. The final one for today is an elegant little dublin that weighs next to nothing. It almost got a Nobleman grade, but ended up as a Cityman due to three pinprick flaws that you can barely see. Regardless, it's my vision of the perfect dublin - and has a stem so comfortable you'll forget you've got a pipe in your mouth. http://www.pipecrafter.com/pipes/cityman/dublin17.php -- Kurt Huhn pipecrafter at pipecrafter.com http://www.pipecrafter.com
