Talk about your basic heartbreak. This pipe was destined to become a nobleman grade when, at the last possible moment, an ugliy little flaw opened up right at the bowl/shank junction. I nearly sandblasted it, but decided that the grain was simply too striking to hide. So I finished it smooth, and rusticated the small area where the flaw was. I tried to keep the rusticated area as small as possible so that none of that wonderous grain would be hidden. And speaking of grain, if you think the straight grain is nice, you should see the birdseye on top and bottom - it's nearly psychedelic!
