Dublin Pot
Price: $225
Every once in a while, something comes off the bench that confounds me slightly. This pipe is one example. Originally destined to be a dublin, the bowl had to be shortened due to a large flaw in the wood, then I decided to give it a unique flair by flattening the bottom of the bowl and adding a cocobolo shank adornment. A nice saddle stem completes the ensemble. The confounding bit is what in the heck to name such a pipe. It was a dublin before modification, and then it's more of a pot now, but it doesn't have the thick proportions of most pots. I spent quite a while agonizing over what to call the pipe, and finally settled on the completely unimagintive name of "dublin pot".
As can be seen in one of the photos, the contrast stain I used on this pipe brought out a couple of tiny flaws in the bowl rim. They're tiny little things, hardly worth a mention, but you know me, I never leave anything out about a pipe.
