A clencher's dream! This pipe is lightweight and well balanced. The bit is thin, yet thick enough to provide ample resistance to even hard clenchers. And with a slight fishtail, the stem simply disappears between your lips.
But that's only the part I actually control over. The grain on this pipe turned out stunning. The longer I do this, the better I get at reading the grain of blocks of briar, and this one really cooperated with me. The bowl has a really nice radial grain that goes between straight and flame, and the birdseye shows up everywhere from the top and bottom of the oval shank to the base and rim of the bowl. If I may say so, this is a wonderful pipe that is sure to turn heads wherever you take it.
Now the full disclosure: On the bottom of the shank is a couple extremely small pinpricks. These are the type that would have me sandblasting a pipe with lesser grain, but I decided to leave them on here and let the pipe speak for itself. Over time, these flaws will become fairly impossible to find unless you know exactly where to look.
