Volcano10

The volcano is a pipe shape that is deceptively difficult to make. On the one hand, it seems easy - make a cone, wack the top off, and bore the tobacco chamber. But if you just do that, you end up with something that looks clumsy and amaturish. You need to figure out how to compose the base of the pipe, the intersection of the shank, how much bend to work in, and what angle you need in order to make it comfortable to hold, and pleasing to the eye. It's taken me a long time to get to the point where I can make a volcano and say "Yep, that's exactly how it should look."

Anyway, here's one that looks exactly how I think it should. This pipe was created falling on the heels of another, larger volcano that ended up with a frustrating flaw in exactly the wrong place. I needed a break on smooth finishes too, so I decided to sandblast this one. It's actually deceptively large. In the photos it seems like it might be 5 inches or so, but in actuality it's exactly 6 inches long. It's also rather light for it's size, making clenching a breeze.
