The Black Prince

As I sat at my desk this morning, pondering a small block of morta and a length of bamboo, it dawned on me to combine them in an insteresting exercise in textures. In the past I made a pipe with a sandblasted bamboo shank, and loved it so much I kept it for myself. However, I haven't done any since, and that was over four years ago. I figured it was about time to do it again.

The textures of the morta and bamboo, once both are sandblasted, are very different. And yet, they compliment each other very well. The delicate striations of the bamboo are an interesting counterpoint to the strata-like grain of the morta. The pipe is topped off with a small and comfortable stem that has been hand cut from ebonite rod stock and given a comfortable churchwarden style button.
