Here's the pipe that started this entire line of pipes. This was a special request from a customer that wanted a stylized, yet realistic and slightly sinister looking, volcano shape designed to be rested on a table and smoked with a hose. When I first read the request, I really had no idea how I was going to pull this off, but accepted the challenge anyway. Over the course of the next couple months I slowly worked out details and ended up with this final product.

The base of the bowl is heavily rusticated using a variety of tools and dangerous implements, and finally sandblasted to add even more interest and cragginess to the texture. To say it took a while is an understatment, but the final result was well worth the effort. It looks just like a craggy chunk of blackened and cooled lava rock.

At the customer's request I added a bit of realism to the pipe by creating rivulets of 'lava' running down the side of the mountain, and some bubbling lava glow on the rim. To match this, the stem is cumberland and, if you use your imagination, could be a similar rivulets of molten rock running along it's length. The hose is similarly accented under the outer sheath. And just to add a bit of extra interest (as if it wasn't interesting enough) I capped off the hose ends with bands of copper that help to keep the hose assembly secured together.
